science for the kids: Recycle Paper

Recycle Paper

Recycling paper has become a big deal in today’s world. In fact the type of papers known as ‘recycle papers’ are cool in texture and can be used for many activities. So let’s create your own colorful recycle papers.

You need:

Some newspaper

Scissors (preferably blunt end)

Water

A measuring cup

Ruler

A bowl

A food processor

A plastic folk (disposable)

2 nylon screens (30 cm

A needlework frame (plastic – 15cm)

A rolling pin

A hairdryer

How to recycle paper:

Firstly let’s cut the newspaper so that it becomes 30 cm wide and 40cm long

Now rip the paper in to tiny pieces (ideally around 1cm square in size)

Collect all tiny pieces of paper in to a bowl and add half a cup of water.

Now keep it aside and don’t touch it for two days!

If you don’t have patience to wait for two days, with the help of an adult, blend the mixture in a food processor for at least 05 minutes

From time to time you will need to use the plastic fork and mix the paper with water until it turns in to a pulp

Now using the needle frame and the nylon screen, strain the pulp in to the nylon screen.

Next spread the pulp evenly on the surface of the screen

Now is the time to remove the nylon screen from the frame.

After having done the earlier step, keep the pulp on top of a pile of newspaper.

Then get the second nylon screen and place it over the pulp so that the pulp becomes sandwiched

Next step is to use the rolling pin over the pulp to eliminate the residual water in the pulp.

Once the pulp is dehydrated, keep it in a dry place and allow it to dry well.

If you’d like to accelerate the process, you may use a hair dryer for it

When the pulp is 100%, it can be removed from the screens and used as new paper for your arts and crafts work!
